On Sunday 17 September 2017, 47 people from many different backgrounds, including Moorfields staff, patients and one large group from Vivid Optical - Recruitment Specialists, joined together as from the 262 feet high viewing platform at the Arcelormittal Orbit in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – all to raise money for Moorfields Eye Charity. Each participant had their own personal reasons for taking part.
During their exhilarating descent to the ground, our brave participants had a breathtaking 20 mile view across London. The weather was kind with the sun making a welcome appearance in the afternoon helping to make it a great day for everyone.
The professional team from Wire & Sky were amazing, helping the abseilers to take that scary step off the edge by keeping them calm. Their support enabled every person to complete the abseil with a smile, no matter how scared they were at the beginning. Everyone was taught all they needed to know to abseil safely and in a controlled manner.
#TeamMoorfields fundraising efforts currently stand at £14,800. We‘re hoping to reach £16,000, so please do help us get there. All proceeds will go towards the pioneering research carried out at Moorfields Eye Hospital and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, to create new and improved treatments for eye diseases.
