“We will be setting out on our third 14 mile Eye to Eye this year. Grannies is a small team - at the moment - of two. We share two lovely, lively granddaughters and want to be good role models for them - grannies who push themselves and help other people at the same time.
“We enrolled for Eye to Eye again this year for several reasons that are important to us:
- To give support to Moorfields' pioneering and excellent work - Jean's mother had macular degeneration before treatment was available and knows its distressing and severe impact.
- Eye to Eye is such a well organised event and we always feel appreciated and well looked after.
- It gets us moving again in the bleak mid-winter and reminds us that we can!
“So, with just over six weeks to go it is training for real now. We managed it last year but we do take it seriously and will practise (and nag each other) over the coming weeks.
“The route is always very well planned and signposted through London 's hugely varied and interesting sites. There is always something new to see or walk around. It hasn't rained yet on Eye to Eye and hopefully our luck will hold out again this year. However, if it does, we know that the reception, delightful company of other walkers (and cake) at the finish line will more than compensate.
“Tell your friends, family and colleagues about the 14 and four mile challenges - it really is a worthwhile and rewarding day out - and quite doable - even for grannies!
“We hope to see you there.
Maureen Lee and Jean Wallace”
